    Description

Antique French NAVY Colonial Marked M1874 Rifle Bayonet measuring 25-1/2" long overall with a blade length of 20-1/2".  Blade in excellent condition with three cartouches on the ricasso area of blade, "R" and "B" in s circle with "S" in a diamond with a star above it. Handle and quillon shows some age patina, guard marked with Navy Anchor cartouche.  Top spine of blade marked, with Chatterault Armory 1883.  The scabbard is the opposite, looks like its in dried grease, perhaps old paint, and it is peeling.  The throat area has rope braided around it.  The rope is held in place by age, some of the grease and paint, but can be removed easily if one chose to. I think restoring the scabbard and leaving rope on it, put on nicely. The scabbard does not show any dings, but shows a slight bend approx. 4" from the point.  S/N# on bayonet "TC 4889".  I cannot see a serial number on the scabbard.   See photos for further details, clarification, and condition.  A beauty.
