Near Pair 1880s GAZOGENE BRIET Seltzer Bottles w/Woven Cane Wrap, Pewter Taps
Scarce Near pair of Antique GAZOGENE BRIET Seltzer Bottles with Woven Cane Wrap & Pewter Taps, mounted as lamps. Made in France. Rare to have the cane fully intact. Early third quarter of the 19th century
. Spigot handle reads "BRIET Bte, S.G.D.G., A PARIS." Each bottle is m
ade of three pieces, with two clear hand blown glass jars on a white porcelain base. A pewter fixture with spigot connects the upper vessel from the lower.
The two glass vessels are wrapped with woven cane to keep the jars from exploding in the event of over-pressurization
. They measure 32 3/4" tall to the top of the finials with a base of 7" across. (Please note that the finials are different. Additionally, the cane on one is darker than the other but the color on the caning is even throughout on each lamp. No nicks, dings or damage. Very clean throughout with minimal wear to the brass.  Both with dual sockets and chair pulls. A fine addition to any home or collection. Guaranteed in fine working order.
The gazogene is featured in Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, and this model is identical to the one on display in the 221B Baker Street replica home in Los Angeles.
Bottles are in EXCELLENT condition! All cane is tightly wrapped and intact. No chips, cracks, or corrosion. Recommended for use as decorative collectibles only, and cannot guarantee functional aspect as seltzer dispenser. A beautiful pair!
