    Description

For sale is a scarce original WWI French Aircraft Altimeter by Leon Hatot of Paris. Leon Hatot of Paris was a student at the School of Horology in Besanand was well known in his day for producing high quality products including aero instruments, the dial mark "Aviation Militaire" dates its as being in use for the French Military Air Service. The center reads: "AVIATION MILITAIRE", "L.HATOT FABRI BESANCON", BAROMETRE ALTIMETRE", "COMPENSE". Instrument measures approximately 3-3/4 inches in diameter and is approximately 1-1/4" thick. It bears four rings for stabilization in the cockpit.Glass is in near perfect condition with no scratching, some scratching on the metal back, including the name of the previous owner. It is hard to read but I can see "Emil W. Holinger, 1st. Lt." It retains a rope that goes through the rings that looks like it might be the same age as the instrument. Untested.
